Week 6 Wrap-Up

Thanks to everyone who shared their rock collections during science last week. Next we move on to soils and fossils.

In math we'll continue rounding and estimation.  These photos show partners practicing with addition crossword puzzles.

The students are working on strategies to develop comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary during reading workshop. The Daily CAFE, developed by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser, is an individualized approach to literacy.  To view the "menu," and strategies, click here

In writing, the class is drafting their narratives.  Enjoy the weekend!

Week 17 Wrap-Up

Thomas' illustration for "mixture"

After Thanksgiving, we're in the fall homestretch.  The students are finally in the publishing stage after weeks of research.  In social studies, we're exploring the influence of ancient Greece, including democracy, architecture, and the Olympics.  Following a geometry unit, measurement is next.  On Friday, we walked around the school to get a feel for just how far a mile is.  The class is sharpening their detective skills as they search for context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words in reading/language arts.

  • Visit our Zine Library in the hall to learn about habitats around Georgia, and how to zines that showcase a variety of talents.
  • Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year's can-a-thon.
  • Tuesday evening, students need to report to their homerooms at 6:10 for the winter musical.  See you there!

Weeks 10 & 11 Wrap-Up

Above, Nathanial and Andrew work on the morning assignment, while Katie Sue moves up.  After early realease, parent-teacher conferences, Book Fair, and end of quarter assessments, we're ready for the weekend.

With a list of nonfiction text features revealed one by one, Thania calls on eager volunteers to differentiate between glossary, index, and table of contents.

Last week, Cassius and Siena enjoyed the best spot in the classroom with a view of monarch visitors in the butterfly garden.

Monarchs weren't the only ones taking advantage of the last blooms of the year.
