Did somebody lose a robot?

A year ago this month, a robot named Philae landed on a comet millions of miles away. The European Space Agency's animated short tells the tale of Rosetta and Philae...

Click here for an interactive website (accompanied by a wonderfully eerie sci-fi soundtrack) where users explore Rosetta's route over the course of ten long years, or right here to watch what happens when astronomers play with LEGOs.

The Kid Should See This

"There’s just so much science, nature, music, art, technology, storytelling and assorted good stuff out there that my kids (and maybe your kids) haven’t seen. It’s most likely not stuff that was made for them… But we don’t underestimate kids around here."

-Rion Nakaya

Animation, Architecture, and Theater

Last week's field trip to UGA included a range of cross-curricular topics, including illustration, architecture, and theater.

John made real-world connections to the Athens, Greece/Athens, Georgia relationship we've been exploring in social studies as he admired Greek inspired architecture.

Niko, Tyrus, and Batiste enjoyed learning how still images can come alive.

Richard Neupert took us on a walk through animation history, from Steamboat Willie, to Pixar's Luxor Jr.

After their first taste of a college lecture, the kids enjoyed a live performance of Italo Calvino's The Parrot. The theatrical interpretation differed from the original (translated) story we read prior to the trip, which sparked reflective conversation on the bus ride home.

Animated Short Films by Joanna Lurie

"The life of two characters who follow each other beyond the walls."

-Joanna Lurie

"Oscar-shortlisted for Best Animated Short. In the depths of a great forest clad in a great white mantle, curious little creatures discover how beautiful, fascinating and white snow is… as it whirls them giddily on their way to extraordinary encounters with the strange and wonderful. A nocturnal tale brimming with tenderness."
