YMCA Track and Field Day

Students suggest a variety of names for our team during morning meeting. Then after a vote, the majority chooses "Fastees." Since Bella and Wyatt come up with the name, they design a logo to color collaboratively.

What a colorful crew!

Year after year, sunshine and blue skies compliment track and field day.

Anyiah and Riley prepare for the javelin.

Lawton and Lorenzo are ready to race.

Bella, Akasha and Avery launch softballs like SpaceX rockets.

Ella takes a short walk away from a long jump.

Danielle proves that the tongue is key when it comes to throwing a softball.

Dylan and his mom watch the javelin soar.

Genesis, Egan and Z'yon wait for a turn.

Who says grunge rock is dead?

Wyatt witnesses an incredible throw...

while Lawton releases.

Watch out for Lorenzo's throw!

One of the highlights this year is the addition of a sportsmanship prize. Maya and many others support each other during events and are given tickets for good sportsmanship by teachers and volunteers.

Here comes Genesis' throw.

Cleo's mom donates a teepee for a little shade under the hot sun. Entry requires a password.

In addition to supplying some shade (and a pretty cool clubhouse), Cleo's mom also bakes chocolate chip cookies for the class. Do you think Akasha likes them?

Z'yon throws like an Olympian.

Egan gets airborne mid-throw.

Now it's time to run like true Fastees!

Nobody catches Shamir.

Riley and Avery take a well-deserved water break after a hard run.

Anyiah and Maya prefer to float around the track (easier on the joints).

Hurdles are introduced to the games this spring and these folks look like they've been hurdling for years.

Dylan jumps like he's doing a kickflip.

Vivi clears the hurdle with ease.

Is Maya still floating?

Z'yon and Levyn take a break.

The relay teams get ready in unique ways.

Aidan gracefully hands the baton to a teammate.

Riley's off!

Go Akasha!

Anyiah and Sabine perform a synchronized dance routine (or wait for the baton).

Cleo hands it off.

Water = Joy

Groups wait for the awards ceremony to begin...

And the winners are...
