A Field Trip That Rocks


Around ninety third graders load up two buses and head east.


Is it a field trip to Tatooine?

After a slow and winding drive down a dusty dirt road, the buses stop at the bottom of the rock quarry. Classes split into groups. 


Deondre and the rest of the crew gear up.






After an employee explains some of the geology and history of the quarry, our group moves on to a couple piles of granite to search for curious bits of quartz, mica, or other surprises.

Next, Susie and the rest of the class climb aboard a massive CAT 775F rock truck, where they honk the horn and pose for photos.

























Finally, Odessa and friends get creative while painting the chunks of granite.


Henry's group decides to paint a large pile of elephant dung.













Before the buses climb their way out of the incredible chunk of granite formed between 325 and 260 million years ago, when North America was colliding with Africa, Cash catches a glimpse of a small hero who also sports a helmet...
