Peace Cranes to New Town

Following the terrible events in Connecticut, the class read a story about Sadako, the hopeful young Japanese girl trying to overcome illness brought about by tragic violence.  According to the Japanese legend, a wish is granted to anyone who folds 1,000 peace cranes.

During the last week of school before the holiday break, we folded around 300 peace cranes to send to Sandy Hook Elementary.  The intricate folds were a challenge at first (delivering a few tears of frustration), but by the end of the week, Briana and a couple others were creating nanoscale birds.

The cranes will be shipped next week as a message of peace from 900 miles away.

This Prezi includes a paper folding video tutorial, and history of the origami peace crane.  Please allow a few minutes for the video to load.
